The draft Agreement on the delimitation of the bottom of the Caspian Sea was discussed for two days in Ashgabat by the delegations of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan, reported the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry today.

The Turkmen delegation at the talks was headed by the Director of the Caspian Sea Institute, Special Representative for the Caspian Sea Murat Atajanov, and the Azerbaijani delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Borders and the Caspian Sea Khalaf Khalafov.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the relevant ministries and relevant departments of the two countries.

The negotiation process on this issue has been going on for more than a year. The previous meeting of the Joint Working Group on the delimitation of the bottom of the Caspian Sea between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was held on September 12-13, 2022 in Baku.

Earlier it was also reported that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are preparing an agreement on the development of the “Dostluk” field in the Caspian. On January 21, 2021, the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on joint exploration, development and development of this hydrocarbon field in Ashgabat.

According to experts, “Dostluk's” reserves are estimated at 50 million tons of oil. For many years, the field was considered controversial and was called “Serdar” from the Turkmen side, and “Kyapaz” from the Azerbaijani side.
