For the first time since 1976, women will return to Formula 1 racing, reports the Buro website with reference to Bloomberg information.

In 2023, it is planned to open the “F1 Academy”, a racing series and training program for women. During the year, 21 races will be held, in which 15 racers from karting and junior competitions will take part. At first, they will compete in “Formula 4” cars, and then gradually move to “Formula 3”, “Formula 2” and “Formula 1”.

Half of the cost of the racing car for the “Academy” the racers will have to pay from their own funds or with the help of a sponsor, the second half will be paid by the organizer.

This year, the “F1 Academy” race will also be within the framework of the “Formula 1” Grand Prix.

The last female “Formula 1” driver was Italian Lela Lombardi, who competed in 1976, but there were only five women driving an F1 car.
