Today, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov left on a working visit to the Russian Federation to participate in a two-day informal summit of the leaders of the CIS countries, traditionally held annually in St. Petersburg at the end of the year, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

At the Ashgabat International Airport, the head of Turkmenistan was seen off by officials.

It is expected that the leaders of the countries will gather in the afternoon of December 26 at the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library. The institution is located in the center of St. Petersburg in the historical building of the Synod on Senate Square. The library building is often used for such meetings and summits.

During the informal summit, the CIS heads of state will sum up the outgoing 2022, discuss key aspects of practical cooperation and a number of international issues of mutual interest.

This will be the second informal summit of CIS leaders in 2022. The first, in which President Serdar Berdimuhamedov participated, was held in St. Petersburg on October 7, the day of the 70th birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Turkmenistan is an associated member of the Commonwealth of Independent States, taking an active part in the affairs of the Organization, building relations with the CIS member states on an equal, trusting basis, taking into account the common goals and national interests of each of the parties.
