For the first time in history, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has permitted men to take part in group synchronized swimming competitions at the Olympic Games, reports the website of the International Swimming Federation.
“This announcement marks a milestone in the history of synchronized swimming. The evolution of the sport towards inclusiveness is proceeding at a rapid pace, and this decision by the IOC and the International Swimming Federation will help us become an example for the entire Olympic Movement”, said Hussein Al Musallam, President of the International Swimming Federation.
According to him, water sports are universal and the representatives of the stronger sex have proven themselves well in synchronized swimming.
Let us note that earlier men could only perform in mixed duets, but this discipline was not included in the Olympic program.
