The head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry discusses joint projects in Japan

The number of business meetings held today the Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov who is on a business visit in Japan.

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, at the meeting with the head of the Japanese Bank of the International Cooperation (JBIC) Nobumitsu Hayashi the specific accent was made on trade and economic relations and participation of the Japanese companies in implementation of large scale projects in Turkmenistan, including a plant on production of ammonia and urea in Mary, the sulfuric acid production plant in Turkmenabat, an urea plant in Karabogaz, a gas and chemical complex in Kiyanly, a gas to gasoline plant in Ovadandepe.

The sides exchanged with opinions regarding the new priority joined projects in gas and chemical, transport and agricultural fields, scheduled for implementation in Turkmenistan.

The same day the head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan met with the Executive Director of the Nippon Export and Investment Insurance (NEXI) Atsuo Kuroda. This organization provides insurance coverage for financing joint economic projects implemented by the Japanese and Turkmen sides.

During the meeting, the parties considered issues of partnership in the investment field and discussed new opportunities for cooperation, including the activities of NEXI to attract various financial institutions to finance projects in Turkmenistan.

The parties reaffirmed their mutual readiness to develop, diversify and expand bilateral relations.

At the meeting with the President of the company “Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.” Tatsuya Watanabe, during which the main areas of cooperation and ways to increase the effectiveness of interaction were discussed.

The interest of the company in the further development of cooperation with Turkmenistan was noted.

In this context, the parties noted with satisfaction the results of negotiations between the State Concern “Turkmenhimiya” and “Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.” on the construction of a second plant for the production of gasoline from natural gas.

During the meeting with the General Executive Director of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Nobuhiko Sasaki, Rashid Meredov proposed to study the possibility of opening a JETRO office in Turkmenistan to attract small and medium-sized Japanese enterprises to do business in Turkmenistan and, accordingly, Turkmen ones in Japan, to assist in the opening of the Trade House of Turkmenistan in Japan to attract Japanese companies to export products from Turkmenistan with high added value, to consider organizing a trade mission of Japan in Turkmenistan.

The General Executive Director of JETRO confirmed his desire to increase mutually beneficial cooperation with Turkmenistan, declaring his readiness to take an active part in projects implemented in our country in various fields of activity.

Within the framework of the visit to Tokyo, the delegation headed by Rashid Meredov will attend the 14th joint meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese committees on economic cooperation. In addition, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan will take part in the 9th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Central Asian countries and Japan and also will conduct a number of meetings in the Government and Parliament.
