The “Zero Waste project”, which has been implemented for five years under the patronage of Emine Erdogan, wife of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has received support at the United Nations level, reported the Turkish Embassy in Turkmenistan.

In September this year, during the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, Emine Erdogan met with the Secretary General of the Organization; as a result of this meeting, the Declaration of Goodwill on the “Global Zero Waste project” was signed. Also, during the last meeting of the UN General Assembly, the Resolution “On Zero Waste” initiated by Türkiye was adopted. 105 states joined the Resolution, among the co-organizing countries are Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Finland, Italy, Sweden, Japan and South Korea.

With the adoption of this Resolution by the United Nations, March 30 has been declared “International Zero Waste day”. In honor of the recognition of Türkiye’s environmental initiative by the world community, the “Zero Waste summit” will be held in Istanbul on December 23 under the leadership of Mrs. Emine Erdogan.

During the five years of its creation, the “Zero Waste project” has spread far beyond Türkiye, it is included in the agendas of various international summits and conferences. The project includes measures to combat climate change, the maximum reduction of waste production at local levels, waste sorting, the creation of recycling systems and the efficient use of waste.
