The World Warm Athletics Championship 2022 starts in Colombia

Today in Bogota (Colombia) the World Warm Athletics Championship starts.

537 athletes (270 women and 267 men) from 93 countries will take part in the competition, reports IWF.

Turkmenistan at this tournament will be presented by 7 athletes.

The male team included Bunyad Rashidov (weight category up to 67 kg), Maksad Meredov (up to 73 kg), Rejepbay Rejepov (up to 81 kg), Shatlyk Shohradov (up to 89 kg), Shahzadbek Matyakubov (up to 89 kg) and Davranbek Hasanbayev (up to 102 kg). Only Anamjan Rustamova (up to 81 kg) will be part of the female team.

World-2022 championship will last until December 16.

Throughout the history of the World Athletics World Championships, only 2 athletes from Turkmenistan were awarded the title of Champions.

In 1993, having debuted under the flag of Turkmenistan at international competitions, the Altymurad Orazdurdyev won the gold medal of the World Cup in Melbourne in the weight category up to 76 kg (in a jerk raised 167,5 kg, and in a push of 202,5 kg. In 2021, the Turkmen weightlifter Yulduz Jumabayeva was awarded the gold of the World Athletics 2018 championship in the weight category up to 45 kg. Later, the Thai athlete was disqualified and deprived of the medal for violating anti-doping rules, which became known after the samples of athletes who performed at the 2018 World Cup in Ashgabat. As a result of the redistribution of medals, the winner was declared Yulduz Jumabayeva.

Let us remind, on June 27, 2021, the weightlifter Polina Guryeva won the first Olympic medal in the history of independent Turkmenistan. Silver medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, she was awarded the weight category up to 59 kg.
