Anau declared cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024

The Anau city in Turkmenistan has been elected the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2024, reports the “Anadolu” agency.

The decision was adopted unanimously following the results of the 39th meeting of the Permanent Council of the Ministers of Culture of the TURKSOY member countries in Bursa (Türkiye).

A delegation from Turkmenistan headed by Minister of Culture Atageldy Shamuradov is participating in the meeting of the TURKSOY Council.

Anau is a city, the administrative center of Ak Bugday etrap and Ahal velayat of Turkmenistan. The city is located 8 km east of Ashgabat.

Archaeological data testify to the existence of the Anau settlement as early as the Eneolithic era (IV-III millennium BC).

In 2005, the “Ak bugday” National Wheat Museum was erected in Anau. The museum houses many ancient artifacts.

Let us remind that the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2023 is the Azerbaijani city of Shusha.
