Former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva won the presidential election, beating incumbent leader Jair Bolsonaro by almost 2 million votes. This is evidenced by the results of processing 99,1% of protocols, reports TASS.

As follows from the latest data updated in real time on the website of the Supreme Electoral Court (performs the functions of the CEC), more than 59 million people voted for the leader of the Workers' Party, while 57 million voters supported his competitor.

Until the processing of two-thirds of the protocols, the current president was in the lead. However, Lula da Silva closed the gap primarily due to the votes cast for him in the northeastern states that support the socialists.

The turnout was less than 80%, that is, almost 32 million people did not show up at the polling stations.
