A new leader of the Conservative Party of Great Britain and the Prime-Minister of the country has become the former Finance Minister Rishi Sunak, The Guardian reports.

Sunak remained the only contender for the post of prime minister after the Speaker of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt refused to fight further.

42-year-old Sunak will become the youngest British Prime minister in the last 210 years.

Earlier, Sunak had already participated in the election of the prime minister, but lost to Liz Truss in the last round of voting. The two of them reached the last round of elections on July 20.

Let’s remind that the post of the Conservative Party Leader and the Prime-Minister become vacant after Lis Truss decided to resign. She stayed at this position only a month and a half (44 days). She admitted that she didn’t manage to cope with the responsibilities entrusted to her.

Rishi Sunak was born in 1980 in Hampshire (England, Great Britain) in a Punjabi family, descendants of immigrants from India. He graduated from Oxford University, where he studied philosophy, politics and economics. He became a member of the British Parliament in 2015, and in 2019 he was appointed Minister of Finance. He remained in this post until July 5 of this year, when he announced his resignation following his colleague, Health Minister Sajid Javid.

Rishi Sunak is considered one of the richest politicians in the UK. In May 2022, his total capital with his wife was estimated at 730 million pounds.
