Central Asian Games will be revived in the coming two years

The General Secretaries of the Olympic Committees of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan discussed the resumption of the Central Asian Games. It was reported by the official website of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In Seoul (Republic of Korea), within the framework of the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Comities, the National Olympic Committees of the Central Asian countries ended the work of the regular session.

Two main topics were on the agenda for the participants of the working meeting: resumption of the Central Asian Games conduction.

The sides agreed to jointly develop a sports program, also resume the Games in the next two years. The country of conduction and dates will be determined later.

Besides, the sides reached an agreement to develop mechanisms to improve individual and joint preparations of countries by 2023, which will be the qualification stage on the way to the Olympic Games-2024 in Paris. For this purpose, the parties agreed to use sports facilities in Central Asia on mutually beneficial terms.

Since 2015, Kazakhstan has been chairing the Olympic Council of Asia for the Central Asia region. In total, according to the distribution of the Olympic Council of Asia, the region includes seven countries: Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The Central Asian Games are held under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee.

The first Central Asian Games were held in September 1995 in Tashkent (Uzbekistan). In 1997, they were hosted in Almaty (Kazakhstan), in 1999 – in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). In 2003, they were held in Dushanbe (Tajikistan). Despite the fact that the games are supposed to be held every two years, they are not actually conducted after 2003.
