The UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko commented on the role of Turkmen medical diplomacy in international relations. The comment was published in the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan” dated October 13.
The Resident Coordinator considers that Turkmenistan could serve as an example for other countries.
“The United Nations supports and is very proud that Turkmenistan can become the first tobacco-free country. This would be a strong diplomatic statement in the field of medical diplomacy and would encourage other countries to follow suit”, - noted Shlapachenko.
Let us remind that in February of this year, the National program for turning Turkmenistan into a tobacco-free country for 2022-2025 and the Action Plan for its implementation were approved.
The program was developed in order to implement effective measures to popularize and widely approve among the population the norms of a healthy lifestyle, fight against tobacco, further improve the health of citizens and increase human life expectancy.
Also, at the end of July excise rates on tobacco products changed.
