A durable analogue of tooth enamel was invented by scientists from Russia and Egypt. It was based on hydroxyapatite supplemented with a complex of amino acids. The result is a mineralized layer with properties reminiscent of the main component of natural enamel.

After the material was applied to healthy teeth and the reaction analyzed using chemical imaging, it turned out that the layer has a thickness of 300 to 500 nanometers, and its nanocrystalline structure is even stronger than your own tooth enamel – the strongest material in the human body.

According to the developers, with the help of the new material it will be possible to restore enamel damaged by erosion and caries, which does not have the property of self-regeneration, reports 4pda.to.
