Turkmenistan clarifies in which cases secondary school graduates will be given a deferment from the army to enter universities

Secondary school graduates will receive a deferment from conscription to enter universities. This was stated by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, reports TASS with reference to Turkmen television.

“We have considered a new version of the law. In general, the guys, if they do not waste time after graduation, can immediately go to serve in the army. Or at their request, there was such a proposal that after graduation from school they would have the opportunity to enter studies. We added this to the law”, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at the opening ceremony of the buildings of the Economic Department of the law enforcement agencies of Turkmenistan.

According to Gulshat Mammedova, chairman of the Mejlis Milli Gengesh, a young man who has graduated the 12th grade of a school can apply if he wants to continue his education, his conscription into the army will be postponed to a later date. Or he can immediately serve in the army.

This is not the first time that Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh speaks about this initiative for school graduates. Earlier, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a meeting with the participation of young people on priority issues of the state youth policy, explained that on additional clause regarding school graduates would be introduced into Article 20 of the Law of Turkmenistan “On State Youth Policy”.
