Elizabeth Rood nominated for the post of US Ambassador to Turkmenistan

President Joseph Biden nominated Elizabeth Rood for the post of US Ambassador to Turkmenistan, reports the official website of the White House.

In case of approval by the Senate, Elizabeth Rood will represent the interests of the United States in Turkmenistan.

Elizabeth Rood is a senior career diplomat with the rank of Minister-Counsellor. In June 2022, the diplomat assumed the duties of the Deputy Head of the diplomatic mission of the US Embassy in Russia.

Elizabeth Rood was born in Cary, (North Carolina, USA). She holds a Master's degree from the University of Maryland (College Park), a Bachelor of Arts degree from Randolph-Macon Women's College (Lynchburg, Virginia), and is fluent in Russian, French, German, Pashto, Dari, and Georgian.

The United States established diplomatic relations with Turkmenistan on February 19, 1992.

At present time, Ambassador Matthew Stephen Klimow has been the head of the US diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan since 2019.
