Turkmenistan intends to hold the Olympic Games. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated this while congratulating the Turkmen athletes on the prize-winning places at the Silk Way 2022 rally-raid held across Russia last month and the Asian Weightlifting Championship among youths (under 17 years old) and juniors (under 20 years old) in Tashkent.
“We will turn our country into a center for holding international competitions, championships and the Olympic Games,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov said in an address to athletes, the text of which was published today in the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
The head of state recalls that in 2017 Turkmenistan successfully held the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games under the motto "Health, Spirituality, Friendship", and in 2018 - the Amul-Hazar International Rally and the World Weightlifting Championship.
At the same time, new bright pages were opened in the history of Turkmen sports in 2021: at the Tokyo Olympics, weightlifter Polina Guryeva in the weight category up to 59 kg won the first Olympic silver medal in the history of independent Turkmenistan.
“We will continue to create all the conditions for our youth to be physically strong and spiritually rich, massively engaged in physical education and sports, eschew bad habits, combine work and rest, and reach heights in the world of sports,” the President of Turkmenistan said.
He stressed that the construction of new specialized infrastructure facilities will contribute to the formation of true fans of the sports movement, the generation of modern masters of sports.
The head of state also noted that, using the potential of sports to celebrate the ideals of peace and friendship, worthily continuing the constructive traditions of brotherhood and solidarity, Turkmenistan implements a policy in the interests of the progress of the international community and world peace.
