Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan signed the Agreement on rational use of Amuderya water resources

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev named historic the Agreement on management, protection and rational use of Amuderya water resources signed today between the Government of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in Tashkent, reported the information program “Watan” of the Turkmen television.

“This landmark document, undoubtedly, will promote the assurance of the rational use of water resources in the region” – noted Mirziyoyev following the talks with the Turkmen collegue.

“I especially want to underline that we solved all issues on water in the spirit of good neighborliness, mutual understanding and taking into account each other's interests on a long–term basis,” the head of Uzbekistan said.

In his turn, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov underlined that Turkmenistan has always stated that water and energy issues in our region must be solved on the basis of generally recognized norms of international law, taking into account the interests of each country and with the participation of international organizations, including the UN.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov is visiting Uzbekistan for the first time as President of Turkmenistan on a two-day state visit.
