The Eiffel Tower in Paris is corroded. It needs a major overhaul, not a facelift, reports The Guardian.
For the Olympic Games, which will be held in the capital of France in 2024, it is planned to repaint the tower, although experts note that the building needs a full overhaul.
Repainting only exacerbates corrosion, experts say.
The thing is that Sete, the company that manages the tower, does not want to close the facility for an extended period due to loss of tourism revenue. The iconic attraction receives more than 6 million visitors a year, making it the fourth most visited cultural site in France after Disneyland, the Louvre and the Palace of Versailles.
The Eiffel Tower was designed for the World's Fair in 1889. Its height is 324 meters, and its weight is 7300 tons.
