President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the VI Caspian Summit, reported the press center.
At the International Airport of the Turkmen capital, the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met the distinguished guest.
At present time, very hot weather has set in the Turkmen capital. Unable to withstand the scorching heat, the Russian leader took off his suit before getting into the presidential car, after which he went to meet with the chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The heads of all five Caspian states will participate the summit, which is scheduled for the afternoon in Ashgabat. Earlier, the Presidents of Azerbaijan, Iran and Kazakhstan have already arrived in Ashgabat.
The first Caspian Summit, held exactly 20 years ago in Ashgabat, became the starting point for determining the priority vectors of fruitful cooperation built on the basis of equality, trust and goodwill in the near and long term.
The dialogue started in the Turkmen capital received a worthy continuation, laying the foundation for important decisions taken at subsequent summits in Tehran (2007), Baku (2010), Astrakhan (2014) and Aktau (2018). As a result of the latter, the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea was signed - a historic document that establishes the legal norms of interaction in the Caspian in various fields.
It is expected that at the current summit the leaders of the Caspian “five” will confirm the relevance and inviolability of the principles of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, which assumes that the Caspian Sea is the sea of all five Caspian states, and only they have sovereign rights over the sea and its resources.
