President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin will hold four bilateral meetings on June 29 on the sidelines of the Caspian Summit in Ashgabat. His assistant Yuri Ushakov stated about this to journalists, reports TASS.

According to him, before the meeting, Putin will meet with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and after the summit - with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Iran - Ilham Aliyev and Ebrahim Raisi.

Besides that, the head of the Russian state will hold a special meeting with the chairman of the Halk Maslahaty chamber of the Turkmen parliament and personally congratulate Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who will turn 65 on the day of the Caspian summit, on his birthday.

Ushakov reminded that Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov played “an important personal role in establishing the current form of cooperation between the Caspian countries”. “And, of course, he always played a big role in the formation of Russian-Turkmen cooperation,” added the diplomat.

The assistant to the President of the Russian Federation said that the Russian side expects that the talks in Ashgabat “will confirm the strategic nature of multilateral cooperation in the Caspian Sea, and most importantly, will confirm the commitment to the principles of interaction that were recorded in the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea”.

The convention “secures the sovereign rights of the coastal countries to this reservoir and its resources, the exclusive competence of the coastal countries to resolve all issues related to life in the Caspian Sea, and most importantly, the non-presence of extra-regional armed forces in the Caspian”, reminded Ushakov.

At present time, the Convention has been ratified by all countries except Iran.

The leaders of all the Caspian states - Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkmenistan, will participate in the summit.
