A new road bridge will be built across Garabogaz Bay, which will connect two neighboring countries – Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed the corresponding decree, the information program “Watan” of the Turkmen television reported today.
In accordance with the document, a new engineering structure with a two-way two-lane traffic and its leading roads as per the order of the State Agency for Highway Construction Management will be built by the “Altcom” company.
The decree prescribes to start construction works in July 2022 and to hand over the automobile bridge and its leading roads with full readiness for operation in June 2024.
A new bridge will be constructed across the bay along the Turkmenbashi–Garabogaz highway–the border of Kazakhstan on the site of the old one, which is already unable to cope with increased traffic loads.
The new bridge is a part of the logistic system being constructed in the west of Turkmenistan. A highway will pass through it, which will be a continuation of the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi multimodal highway and will connect Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, which will make it possible to increase the traffic flow and the volume of trade turnover between the two countries.
