Today Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin agreed to establish a joint Russian-Turkmen university following talks in Moscow, the Kremlin's Press Service reports.

"Mr. President [Serdar Berdimuhamedov] expressed an idea. The idea is very good, of course, we will support it – to establish a joint Russian-Turkmen university," the Russian leader told media representatives.

Vladimir Putin noted that Russia is actively assisting Turkmenistan in training highly qualified personnel of various areas.

He added that Russian education is consistently popular among Turkmen youth.

According to Putin, more than 30 thousand students from Turkmenistan are currently studying in Russia, of which more than 4.3 thousand are on a budget basis.

The President of the Russian Federation also noted that the joint Russian-Turkmen Pushkin High School has been successfully operating in Ashgabat for 20 years, one of the leading educational institutions with education in Russian in the country, where teaching is according to Russian state educational standards and textbooks.

"Mr. President expressed interest in expanding this school, for which I am very grateful to him. We will contribute to it in every possible way," Putin said.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov is visiting Russia for the first time as the head of state since taking office as President of Turkmenistan on March 19, 2022. This is his first official foreign visit.
