President Serdar Berdimuhamedov ordered to consider the possibility of supplying water from the Caspian Sea to Ashgabat. Today the relevant instructions were given during a video broadcast on the development of the agricultural complex.
"The head of state instructed to consider the possibility of starting the construction of desalination plants and water supply to Ashgabat from the Caspian Sea," the Information Program "Watan" of the Turkmen Television reported.
Having given Deputy Prime Minister Annageldi Yazmyradov relevant instructions, taking into account difficult situation with water in the region, the President of Turkmenistan stressed that he would hold a Cabinet meeting on June 11.
In this context, the head of state ordered to prepare a draft Resolution on the establishment of a Government Commission under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister in charge of the agro-industrial complex, and to include the heads of the Supreme Control Chamber, the State Committee of Water Management, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection, scientific institutes, Regional Administrations and other departments in its composition.
The President of Turkmenistan stressed the need to examine the riverbed, starting this work with the Amu Darya and Karakum rivers. In this regard, it was instructed to identify the reasons hindering the watercourse and promptly draw up an action plan to eliminate deficiencies and begin its implementation. In addition, the head of state demanded to prepare proposals related to the allocation of required funds for purchase of machinery, dredge ships, water pumps and spare parts for them.
"In addition to rivers, it is necessary to check main water passes, as well as develop an action plan for their cleaning and concreting and begin implementation," Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
The President of Turkmenistan also ordered to report on the progress underway at each meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.
