An educational ecological session was organized for children having a rest in NTZ “Avaza”

The UNDP Office together with the Nature Conversation Society of Turkmenistan organized an educational session on the theme “Only one Earth” for young vacationers at the “Dayanch” Children’s Health Center in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone.

The event was timed to coincide with World Environment Day and is aimed at improving the environmental awareness of children, the formation of a careful attitude towards nature and its resources. Also, the educational session was aimed at increasing the interest of the younger generation in environmental issues and the desire to change behavior in relation to rational consumption.

Within the framework of the session, presentations were made on the negative impact of plastic on our planet. The children learned a lot about the joint initiatives of the UNDP and the Government of Turkmenistan in the field of environment and climate change.

Also, children participated in the sports games “Earth, water and air”, aimed at teaching children environmentally friendly practices and encouraging their personal contribution to the fight against climate change.

The environmental initiative was held within the framework of the project “Sustainable Cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated Development of Green Cities in Ashgabat and Avaza”, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and UNDP.

The project provides technical, institutional and policy support, and promotes behavior change in relation to sustainable consumption and waste management, covering Ashgabat and Avaza, and also creates a basis for applying the positive results achieved in other cities of Turkmenistan.
