The Day of the Russian Language and the 223rd anniversary of Pushkin's birthday celebrated in the Turkmen capital today. This is reported by the Department of Education, Science and Culture of the Russian Embassy in social networks.
The solemn event was held in the Pushkin Garden opposite the Music and Drama Theater. Representatives of the diplomatic corps, students of a Joint Turkmen-Russian high school and admirers of the poet's work were among the participants. They laid flowers at his monument.
As an international holiday the Day of the Russian Language was established by the UN in 2010. In Russia, it has been celebrated as a public holiday since 2011.
