FIBA international class referee from Turkmenistan Bahtiyar Ibragimov was among the candidates for officiating the matches of the 3x3-basketball tournament at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 2021) in the capital of Vietnam, Hanoi. Ibragimov received an appointment for the games from FIBA. The Basketball Federation of Turkmenistan reported about this to Turkmenportal correspondent.

The 31st Southeast Asian Games kicked off on May 12. About 10 thousand athletes from all 11 countries participating in the region participated in the competition. The fight for medals is conducted in 526 disciplines in 40 sports.

Vietnam was supposed to host the tournament in 2021, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was postponed for a year. The official closing ceremony of the SEA Games 2021 will be held on May 23 at the Palace of Athletics in the capital of Vietnam.

Let us note that having become the first FIBA international class referee from Turkmenistan in 2017, Bahtiyar has been consistently serving international competitions among adults and juniors for five years. Ibragimov received a nomination to referee the V Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat in 2017. He officiated the games of the 3x3-basketball tournament at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta as an international referee in 2018.

A year later, a referee from Turkmenistan was appointed to the FIBA Asia Quest Final 2019 games, which were held in the Maldives. In the same 2019, Ibragimov served at the First World Beach Games in Doha (Qatar), where he judged the women’s final.
