Turkmenistan approved the procedure for granting museums the status of "National"

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov signed a Resolution on approval of the procedure and conditions for granting the legal status “National” to the museums of the country during a Government meeting, the Watan Information Program of the Turkmen Television reported.

The document, made in accordance with the Articles of the Laws of Turkmenistan "On Museums and Museum Affairs" and "On Culture", identifies relations to granting the status of "National" to state museums.

As it was emphasized during the Cabinet of Ministers meeting, the granting of this status will significantly intensify the work of museums in terms of cooperation with specialized institutions of the country and foreign countries, will promote the exchange of museum values, will open up wide opportunities for research and methodological work, will give a powerful impetus to the introduction of new digital information technologies.

Noting the importance of assigning this status to museums, the Head of state stressed the need for further improvement of the legislative framework in the area of culture.

To recap, today, there are 36 museums of national significance under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Culture of the country. They operate both in the capital and in the region and district centers. The largest museum is the State Museum of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan. In addition, there are museums in the country that are under the jurisdiction of administrations and individual sectoral institutions.
