India and Turkmenistan share the principle of a broad “regional consensus” on issues, related to the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, including the formation of a representative and inclusive government, the fight against terrorism, drug trafficking, the provision of humanitarian assistance and the protection of the rights of women, children and other national ethnic groups and minorities. The President of India Ram Nath Kovind, who is on a three-day state visit to Ashgabat stated about this, informs Indian mass media.
Today the head of India met with his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedov and discussed with him the latest developments in Afghanistan, which, according to Kovind, arouse the anxiety.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his February report stated, that the situations in Afghanistan remains unstable and uncertain almost six months after the Taliban (forbidden terroristic organization in the Russian Federation territory) came to power.
In issues of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan formulates its position based on the unity of the political, economic and humanitarian aspects of providing assistance and support to the neighboring state, noted Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
“In the economic aspect – this is the active involvement of Afghanistan in regional and international infrastructure projects, the integration of the country into modern world economic processes,” said the Turkmen leader.
In humanitarian terms, Turkmenistan stands for the need for targeted international assistance to the Afghan people, for support in the restoration and development of the social sphere.
“Both the Turkmen and Indian peoples want to see this country peaceful and prosperous, a good neighbor and partner of all the states of the region,” emphasized S. Berdimuhamedov.
In this context the Turkmen side highly appreciated the efforts of India in the Afghan direction, including the successful “Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan” held on November 10-11, 2021 and the Delhi Declaration adopted as a result, which is a good platform towards achieving a regional consensus on the Afghan agenda.
