Turkmenistan was elected a member of UNCITRAL

Turkmenistan was elected a member of the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) for the period 2022-2028. This was reported to the Head of State by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov at a Government meeting on March 25, the State Information Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the significance of this event, especially in the context of the unanimous approval of the Turkmenistan’s relevant application and the decision to grant it the status of an acceding country to the WTO by the member states of this Council at the next meeting of the General Council of the World Trade Organization.

Reporting on Turkmenistan's cooperation with the United Nations, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov also said that 17 Resolutions of the UN General Assembly were adopted on Turkmenistan's proposal before 2022. At the same time, Turkmenistan is a member of 11 UN Commissions, Committees and Councils, performing relevant international activities within their framework.

To recap, the UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) was established in 1966 to promote the development of international trade law and is a subsidiary body of the UN General Assembly. The Commission is composed of sixty member states elected by the General Assembly. The members of the Commission are elected for six years.
