Aleksander Blokhin, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ashgabat, believes that there won’t be fundamental changes in the foreign policy of Turkmenistan with the change of the President. The diplomat said this in an interview with TASS.
“No, neutrality is, I would say, a foundation stone in the foreign policy of Turkmenistan. That’s why we don’t expect that this direction will change with the change of the head of state. I think that it will stay on force, especially since Turkmenistan's neutrality has shown its viability. For almost 30 years of its existence, this neutrality has been secured by an international decision of the UN, and I must say that Turkmenistan uses this status quite effectively”, the diplomat said, replying the corresponding question of the journalist.
We remind that today the early presidential elections held in Turkmenistan. For the highest state post apply nine candidates, nominated by three political party registered in the country and six initiative groups of the residents.
One of them, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Deputy Prime Minister, earlier announced his intention to continue the policy of neutrality in case of election victory.
