A four-month ban on shark fishing has been introduced in the United Arab Emirates.
According to russianemirates.com with a reference to the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Protection, the ban, introduced until the end of June 2022, will apply during the spawning season, and thus allow the restoration of marine stocks.
In addition, in the UAE, shark fishing from pleasure boats and yachts is prohibited throughout the year. Such rules are in line with the UAE's strategic goal of conserving natural resources and increasing its maritime wealth.
The UAE has also imposed a ban on the import and re-export of shark fins, except when they are used for scientific purposes.
