At a meeting held today, the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan announced the start of the Election Campaign for the post of the President of the country, which will be held on March 12 this year. According to the approved Plan, the nomination of candidates for the highest state post will begin on February 14, the Information Program "Watan" of the Turkmen Television stated.
As previously reported, on February 12, the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan announced the holding of early Presidential elections after the decision of the current Head of State to give "young leaders the road to public administration." At the same time, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov intends retaining the post of Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, to which he was elected after the establishment of a bicameral Parliament in 2020.
