American businessman, politician and owner of one of the world's largest business publications, Michael Bloomberg has been appointed chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Innovation Council. According to lenta.ru, the US Department of Defense shared the corresponding announcement. In his new role, Michael Bloomberg “will lead a panel of distinguished experts and leaders in the nation's innovation base who will provide strategic insights and recommendations on technology and innovation to address the ministry's highest national security priorities”. According to the publication, the billionaire will directly advise top Pentagon officials, including the secretary of defense and his deputy.
Receiving the nomination from US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, Michael Bloomberg said: “In a rapidly advancing technology, along with rapidly changing threats to our national security and the safety of our military personnel, our largest government agency must also be the most forward-thinking.”
