The first meeting of the local committees of the Lebap and Dashoguz velayats was held as part of the Joint Program of the UN and the Government of Turkmenistan “Raising awareness and engaging youth to mitigate the multidimensional risks and threats posed by the global pandemic”.
The program is aimed at increasing the resilience of the youth of these velayats, involving them in work within their communities. The committees still include representatives of velayat and city administrations. In the future, it is planned to attract young volunteers.
A Youth Reference Group will be created from initiative young people. Youth are expected to work in partnership with local governments to reduce and address the multifaceted risks associated with the pandemic.
The program is also aimed at the readiness of specialists of state institutions to implement the Socio-Economic Response Plan, taking into account ensuring security at the local level.
The leading responsible organizations in the implementation of the Joint Program are the Ministry of Sports and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
