Apple has patented a new AirPods feature that will allow you to unlock your iPhone with your ear. The technology, called “Headphone user identification system”, was found in the US Patent and Trademark Office database.
As mir24 notes, the AirPods headset can learn to remember the structural features of the user's ear, which will unlock the device. If a person decides to put another user's headphones in his ear, then access to the device will be blocked. The new technology will allow in the future to replace the biometric and fingerprint sensors on the iPhone, or to work with them in pairs. Currently, the new option is being prepared for the testing phase, based on the results of which a decision will be made on its further implementation.
