The National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna of Turkmenistan celebrates its 60th anniversary

The National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna of the Ministry of Agriculture and Nature Protection of Turkmenistan is celebrating its 60th anniversary, reports the website ashgabat.in.

The Institute was established in 1962 in the system of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan for the systematic development and rational use of desert resources, also for the concentration of scientific forces and means for the development of scientific and practical foundations for the integrated study and development of deserts.

The unique developments of the Institute were introduced throughout the entire USSR and foreign countries, where management is carried out under the influence of deserts.

The Institute has become a scientific center for desert scientists, here scientific and practical solutions were developed to help farmers and livestock breeders, builders of roads and pipelines in the deserts. It has become the largest international center for the study of drylands and the fight against desertification. Major international events were held on the basis of the Institute, which were attended by scientists from around the world.

In 1967, the Institute for the first time published the International Journal "Problems of Desert Development", covering the experience of studying and developing deserts in Central Asia and abroad.

Taking into account the important national economic importance of the development of desert territories, the Institute of Deserts was entrusted with the coordination of research on the problem of “Comprehensive study and development of the desert territories of Central Asia”, the development of desert areas for the construction and operation of various industrial facilities.

In accordance with the needs and demands of the country's economy, the Institute conducts research in various areas, and each area has specialized laboratories.

During its activity, the Institute completed a number of studies, developed and submitted to production dozens of recommendations, that are of great economic importance for Turkmenistan.
