President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals presented today at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on the preparation of a special training program for Turkmen athletes for the XXXIII Summer Olympic and XVII Paralympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024, the “Vatan” news program of Turkmen television broadcasts.
Vice - Premier Sapardurdy Toylyev, who is in charge of the sports sector, said that the program for the preparation of the national team and an action plan for its implementation are planned to be drawn up on a comprehensive basis.
The President of Turkmenistan stressed the need for serious preparation for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, which embody the holiday of sports for peace and prosperity.
In this regard, the importance of work on the development of sports in the country was noted, which acts as an ambassador for peace and an important component of international cooperation.
This is the goal of the Program for the Support and Development of Physical Culture and Sports in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, approved in January last year, the key focus of which is the training of high-class athletes, professional coaches and other specialized specialists, the head of state noted.
Polina Guryeva, a student of the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, won the first Olympic medal in the history of independent Turkmenistan at the Tokyo Games last year. The 21-year-old pupil of the Honored Trainer of Turkmenistan Artur Emiryan was awarded a silver dignity in the weightlifting competition in the weight category up to 59 kg, in which representatives of 14 countries competed for medals.
