The President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the “Malay” gas fields, during a working trip to Lebap velayat that began today, reported the news program of Turkmen television “Watan”.

By arriving, the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting at which issues related to the implementation of the tasks outlined in the Program for the Development of the country's oil and gas industry until 2030, the modernization of the “Malay” field, and the growth of its production capacity were discussed.

Located in the south of the Karakum Desert, about 70 kilometers from Turkmenabat, the administrative center of the country's eastern region, the “Malay” gas field was put into pilot production in 1986. Today there are 91 wells in operation. Gas supplies from this field are carried out both to the domestic market and for export for the “Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China” transnational gas pipeline through the “Malay-Bagtyyarlyk” gas pipeline with a length of 188 kilometers.

During the meeting, the director of the Scientific Research Institute of Natural Gas of the State Concern "Turkmengas", through drawings and diagrams, informed about the ongoing research work to increase the productivity of natural gas fields, about the results of exploration and the identification of new wells.

It was reported, that the “Gunorta Mary” (“South Mary”) and “Demirgazyk Dervush” (“North Dervush”) fields, new discovered in the Mary and Lebap velayats, are expected to have significant natural gas reserves. At the same time, the gas produced in the upper layers of the earth is recognized as meeting high international standards and is considered the most environmentally friendly, which leads to an increased interest in Turkmen natural gas on world markets.

The leader of the nation stated that as a result of the industrial development of newly discovered gas fields and natural gas extracted from them, the volume of the country's gas resources will increase by 126 billion cubic meters. “And this is a gratifying event,” pointed out Berdimuhamedov.

After industrial processing, the natural gas is used in the production of many types of household and construction goods, noted the head of state. Considering that polyethylene and polypropylene obtained from it are widely used in the manufacture of various products, including carpets and fertilizers, as well as environmentally friendly vehicle fuel, Turkmen natural gas is a very valuable and important raw material in industrial production.

The chairman of the State Corporation "Turkmengeology", in his turn, reported on the state of affairs in the supervised structures, in particular, on the conduct of geophysical and geological exploration studies in different parts of the country, and also about their results.

Noting the importance of organizing the work of the industry in accordance with the requirements of the time, raising the professional level of workers, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave specific instructions on expanding the scope of work carried out by local specialists, stimulating scientific discoveries.

The leader of the nation expressed confidence, that in the future the Turkmen specialists will selflessly work and contribute to the extraction of "blue fuel" - our national wealth, as well as to its industrial processing and transportation to the consumer.

Having listened to the report of Deputy Prime Minister Shahim Abdrahmanov, who is in charge of the fuel and energy complex, the President of Turkmenistan emphasized that the domestic fuel and energy complex faces three main tasks. This is the industrialization of the oil and gas sector, providing domestic consumers with appropriate products and increasing the export potential of the industry.

In this regard, the head of state noted the need to introduce the achievements of modern science into this area, to develop international cooperation, addressing specific instructions to the relevant leaders.

A year ago, the President of Turkmenistan launched a new booster gas compressor station at the “Malay” field with a capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year. This project was implemented by the State Concern "Turkmengas" together with “Petro Gas LLP” (Great Britain). The gas compressor equipment was supplied by “Dresser-Rand S.A” (France).
