Turkmenistan assumed the chairmanship of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asia

Today, a regular meeting of the Dialogue of Women Leaders of Central Asian States took place, organized in the format of videoconferencing, the state news agency of Turkmenistan reports.

The event was attended by representatives of five Central Asian countries, heads of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the Network of Arab Women Parliamentarians for Equality Ra'edat and the African Women's Union. The chairman of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, Gulshat Mammedova, took part from Turkmenistan.

Within the framework of the meeting, the results of the first year of the Dialogue functioning were summed up, as well as the prospects for the development of the organization and plans for activities for 2022.

As noted, during its first year of existence, the Dialogue served as a high-level binding political platform for women in Central Asia. To this end, a number of events were held on the topics of sustainable development, political activities of women, including in matters of peace and security, increasing their economic opportunities, at which final statements were formulated.

During the meeting, the chairmanship in this structure was transferred to Turkmenistan in 2022.

The Central Asian Women's Dialogue was established in December 2020 with the support of the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia as an informal regional platform to support women in the region, enhance their political, economic and social role and empower them to provide greater influence on decision-making processes on issues related to sustainable development.
