Japanese government donates medical equipment to Turkmenistan's healthcare system

Today, a solemn ceremony was held for the transfer of the first batch of modern Japanese-made medical equipment to the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan within the framework of the grant project “Improving the healthcare system through the provision of medical equipment in Turkmenistan”, launched by the Government of Japan and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) in March this year.

The ceremony was attended by UNOPS representative in Ashgabat, project manager Vasily Tolkachev, representative of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan A.Ataev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Turkmenistan Hiroyuki Yamamoto, Acting UN Resident Coordinator and Head of UNICEF Representation in Turkmenistan Mohammad Fayazi. The event was also attended by representatives of the media.

Within the framework of the project, the budget of which is 2.8 million US dollars, the Government of Japan will purchase and supply medical equipment to Turkmenistan, including portable X-ray machines, artificial lung ventilation devices, modern ultrasound machines and other medical devices.

As the Japanese ambassador noted in his speech, the first batch of medical equipment will be followed by another, after which it will be installed in medical institutions of Turkmenistan, and personnel will be trained.

Recall that the project “Improving the health care system through the provision of medical equipment” is being implemented within the framework of the UN-Turkmenistan Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development for 2021-2025 and is the first UNOPS activity in Turkmenistan.
