The conference “Politics of Peace and Trust - the Basis of International Security, Stability and Development”, timed to coincide with the 26th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan and the International Day of Neutrality, was held today in Ashgabat.
The forum was attended by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
High-ranking representatives of authoritative international organizations and structures, including the UN, OSCE, CIS, ECO, the Organization of Turkic States, the International Organization of Turkic Culture, as well as the Mejlis, deputy prime ministers, heads of ministries and departments of the country, heads of diplomatic missions of foreign states accredited in Turkmenistan, representatives of the country's diplomatic corps, etc. were invited to discuss the meaning and essence of Turkmen neutrality.
In his speech, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gave a succinct description of the main principles of state neutrality. He stressed that Turkmenistan is committed to the development of international cooperation in the name of peace, stability and sustainable development. The head of state also focused on the need to form a new philosophy of international relations, which is based on clearly verified political criteria, healthy, positive pragmatism, generally recognized and understandable to all human values.
The conference participants heard the speeches of the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation H. Noziri, the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Bagdat Amreev, the Secretary General of the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY) Dusen Kaseinov, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Asia, the head of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia Natalia German, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko and Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat John McGregor.
It was noted at the conference that, taking into account its neutral status, Turkmenistan intends to further strengthen mutually beneficial partnership with international and regional structures.
The initiative to hold this forum in Ashgabat belongs to the President of Turkmenistan. The conference caused a wide international resonance, active interest and support in world circles, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.
Following the results of the International Forum of Peace and Confidence, a solid package of documents was signed, numbering 26 multilateral acts.
