Berdimuhamedov pardons 338 convicts in honor of the 26th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality

In honor of the 26th anniversary of Turkmenistan's neutrality, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov pardoned 338 people serving sentences in the country's prisons today, the “Vatan” news program of Turkmen television reported.

The President of Turkmenistan instructed the heads of law enforcement agencies to take appropriate measures so that those who have been pardoned would soon leave their places of detention and be able to return home to their families. The head of state also instructed the hyakims of velayats, etraps and cities, as well as other leaders, to take care of the employment of the pardoned citizens.

Pardon actions have been practiced in Turkmenistan since 1999. Currently, they are held in the country 3-4 times a year and are timed to coincide with major public holidays. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the acquisition of state independence, 2064 convicts were pardoned in Turkmenistan. Among them there are 2058 citizens of Turkmenistan and 6 citizens of other states.
