UN discussed with Turkmenistan the implementation of the provisions of the Convention on Human Rights

Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khadzhiev and Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Central Asia Richard Komenda discussed issues of further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN specialized agencies for human rights.

During the meeting, which was also attended by the UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapochenko, a constructive exchange of views took place on the strengthening and protection of human rights, including the implementation of the obligations assumed and the implementation of the provisions of the relevant conventions.

Noting the achievements of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights, the parties discussed the procedures for the practical implementation of the norms of humanitarian standards in national legislation.

As you know, Turkmenistan consistently fulfilling its obligations in the humanitarian sphere, has joined most of the UN conventions, pacts and protocols on human rights. The issues of protecting human rights, ensuring gender development are reflected in the National programs of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan.

The parties also discussed the activities of the Working Group of the Interdepartmental Commission to ensure the fulfillment of Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law. In this regard, the key directions for the implementation of the Joint Action Plan of this commission and the United Nations Office in Turkmenistan for the second half of 2021 were considered.

Regular contacts of the Turkmen Government with the International Labor Organization (ILO) on the coordination of joint projects, as well as the organization of visits of ILO experts to Turkmenistan were emphasized.

During the talks, gratitude was expressed to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights for Central Asia for organizing and holding meetings related to the provision of technical assistance and coordination of activities in the implementation of UN projects on human rights.
