Construction of new facilities for the production of technical iodine, bromine and bromine products is planned in Turkmenistan. Deputy Prime Minister Charymyrat Purchekov made this proposal at a meeting of the Government today.

As noted, the construction of facilities is planned as part of the Balkanabat iodine plant in the Balkan velayat. Purchekov said that the State Concern "Turkmenhimiya" has already received specific proposals from well-known foreign companies with extensive experience in the design and construction of such production facilities.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, major overhaul of existing wells with deposits of iodine and bromine will be done on the basis of the existing plant, as well as construction of new production facilities equipped with state-of-the-art equipment.
In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister made a proposal to hold a tender with the participation of interested foreign companies.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov approved the proposal and instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to continue explore the possibilities of increasing the production of high-quality technical iodine at the largest factories operating in the western region, as well as to actively involve foreign companies with extensive experience and technologies in this area.

The State Concern "Turkmenhimiya" retains two factories, Bereket and Balkanabat, which produce iodine-bromine products. The two plants produce jointly over 500 tons of technical iodine annually. Most of the production is exported, according to the Vatan news program of the Turkmen television.

Iodine is used industrially in light-emissive device: halogen lamps, metal halide arc lamps, the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries for cars and a number of other areas.

Turkmenistan is among six countries that account for more than 95% of the world's iodine production.
