Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan plan to sign an agreement on the state border regime

An intergovernmental agreement on the state border regime is planned to be signed by Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, the website time.kz reports.

The draft agreement says:

"The regime of the state border is supported by the joint activities of the states of the parties and its issues are regulated by this agreement, as well as by the legislation of the states of the parties and international treaties to which the states of both parties are parties."

According to the developers of the draft agreement, "the project was developed to ensure stability on the state border of the two countries and tranquility in the border areas, the settlement of border issues in the spirit of mutual respect, trust, equality, friendship and cooperation."

The agreement on the regime on the state border is the rules in force on the Turkmen-Kazakh state border and in the border strips. They include the order:

  • maintenance of the Turkmen-Kazakh state border;
  • crossing the Turkmen-Kazakh state border by persons, vehicles and movement of goods and other property through it;
  • the passage of persons, vehicles, cargo and other property across the Turkmen-Kazakh state border;
  • carrying out flights over the Turkmen-Kazakh state border and border strips;
  • conducting economic, fishing, research, prospecting or other activities, conducting socio-political, cultural or other events on the Turkmen-Kazakh state border, border strips, as well as within border waters (including their use);
  • resolution of border incidents.

The adoption of such an intergovernmental agreement will contribute to the settlement of border issues to ensure the regime of the Kazakh-Turkmen state border, said Karim Massimov, chairman of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan.
