The issue of Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO was discussed at a meeting of the Government Commission

Today, during a meeting of the Government Commission to study issues related to Turkmenistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), the issue of filing an official application for the participation of our country in the WTO activities as an active observer during the XII WTO Ministerial Conference was substantively studied. This was reported by the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

All items of the draft agenda of the Government Commission were also discussed in detail, an exchange of views took place on the approval of the Work Plan for 2021-2022 on the preparation of the Memorandum of the foreign trade regime of Turkmenistan.

The participants also considered a number of priority issues regarding the continuation of work on enhancing cooperation between Turkmenistan and the WTO and further strengthening the bilateral partnership.

The accession of Turkmenistan to the WTO as a full member is provided for by the Strategy of Foreign Trade of Turkmenistan for 2021-2030.

The XII WTO Ministerial Conference was supposed to be held in June 2020 in Nur-Sultan, but was postponed due to the global pandemic to the next year. The conference will be held in Geneva from November 30 to December 3, 2021 under the chairmanship of Kazakhstan. The Ministerial Conference, which is attended by trade ministers from all 164 WTO member countries, is the highest governing body of the organization and usually meets every two years. The previous 11th conference was held in December 2017 in Buenos Aires.
