Today, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Ejima Kiyoshi, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of our country reports.

During the meeting, a thorough exchange of views took place on the prospects for further cooperation in the trade and economic sphere and the industrial sector.

Taking into account the innovative development strategy being implemented by our country and the large-scale transformative programs being implemented in a number of key areas of the partnership, the industrial complex, including oil and gas chemistry, as well as energy, transport and communication sector, etc. Cooperation in the use of renewable energy sources is also seen as promising, which is given great attention in Turkmenistan. In this aspect, there are good opportunities for cooperation in such an urgent area as “green energy”.

The successful experience in the implementation of major infrastructure projects was noted in the asset of the bilateral Turkmen-Japanese cooperation. A clear result of this partnership is the modern industrial complexes built in Turkmenistan that produce high-quality oil, gas and agrochemical products.

Another vivid example of effective Turkmen-Japanese cooperation is the implementation of a project for the construction of a 432 MW gas turbine power plant in Lebap velayat with the participation of Sumitomo Corporation. The commissioning of this facility, which is an important link in the national energy system, will give an effective impetus to building up its potential.

In this regard, Mr. Kiyoshi Ejima expressed his sincere gratitude to the leader of the nation for the attention and support provided in matters of interstate cooperation, as well as for the invitation of the Japanese delegation to visit our country and take part in the opening ceremony of the new power plant. It was noted that its commissioning will serve for the benefit of not only Turkmenistan, but also the region, and will also contribute to the socio-economic development of Afghanistan.

As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed, our country, being committed to friendly relations with the neighboring state, provides active support in its peaceful restoration, having initiated such large-scale infrastructure projects as the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline and the laying of power transmission lines and fiber–optic communication along the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route.

All these years, Turkmenistan has been supplying electricity to Afghanistan on preferential terms, and regularly sends humanitarian supplies. Through the efforts of the Turkmen side, a number of social facilities have been built on the Afghan territory. Speaking about this, the leader of the nation noted that our country will continue to provide fraternal support to its southern neighbor, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.

Earlier, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Japan. During the conversation, the head of the Japanese government congratulated Berdimuhamedov on the successful completion of the construction of a gas turbine power plant in Chardzhovsky etrap of Lebap velayat with the participation of the Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation.
