Speaker of the Parliament of Turkmenistan took part in the OSCE Forum on Gender Issues

Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova took part in the Central Asian Forum on “The Role of Women in Fostering Peace, Trust and Security”, organized by the OSCE Center in Ashgabat in cooperation with the Government of Turkmenistan and with the support of the Gender Program of the OSCE Secretariat and the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

The forum brought together representatives of governmental and non-governmental structures, as well as experts on gender issues from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

The participants of the event touched upon important topics related to gender policy, in particular, problems and opportunities for women's participation in political and public life, in the security sector, as well as in the field of promoting economic prosperity and protecting human rights, and also discussed the role of women in the processes of strengthening peace and sustainable development.

At the end of the Forum, an outcome document was adopted that included recommendations for actions to be taken at the national and regional levels, such as increasing the participation of women in political life at all levels, in the areas of security, conflict prevention and peacebuilding. The document proposes mechanisms to promote gender equality and develop targeted programs to expand the economic opportunities of women, as well as implement programs to ensure human rights and tolerance, the press service of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat reported.
