The President of Turkmenistan has simplified the visa regime for UN staff

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has simplified the visa regime for UN staff by signing the relevant Resolution today, reported “Vatan” information news program of Turkmen television.

According to the document, from March 2, 2021: 

  • foreign nationals with UN passports are allowed up to 30 (thirty) calendar days from the date of arrival in Turkmenistan without a visa to come to Turkmenistan, stay in it, travel outside it, cross the border, and cross the territory in transit the territory of Turkmenistan.
  • foreign nationals who are employees of the United Nations or its specialized agencies accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as members of their families, are exempt from visa issuance during the period of work in Turkmenistan.

The document is intended to inform the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the above-mentioned United Nations.

The document also instructs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Migration Service, other relevant ministries and departments, in conjunction with the Ministry of Justice, to prepare and submit to the Cabinet of Ministers proposals for making changes and additions to the legislation resulting from this Regulation.

The simplified visa regime for UN staff is established “for the purpose of further strengthening Turkmenistan's relations with the United Nations and its structures, as well as creating optimal conditions for the staff of this

Organization under the Convention on the Rights of the United Nations, the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations”.
