Turkmenistan took part in the ministerial meeting of the Central Asian countries on the digitalization of agriculture

Digitalization possibilities of agriculture are discussed during the videoconference of the Ministries of agriculture of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. 

During videoconference, potential regions in which innovation technologies  could be implemented in short term in the frame of SDG-2 also concerning food issues are defined, as informs State publishing service of Turkmenistan. 

The participants underlined that countries already have reached good progress in the transfer to digital technologies, such as precision farming, electronic systems of monitoring in crop production and cattle breeding, soil mapping, desertification process research, salinification and etc.

The meeting spotted new spheres of regional cooperation, special attention is paid to information exchange. In particular, it was reviewed the learning of national priorities of countries in the sphere of use of innovation of digital solutions in agriculture for receipt of rapid result. 

The meeting was supported by the heads of the regional divisions of FAO, representatives of other UN agencies, international financial institutions such as the International Telecommunication Union, the International Fund for Agriculture, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Islamic Development Bank, etc.

- The development of digital technologies opens up new opportunities to accelerate the transition to more sustainable and inclusive agro-industrial systems, stressed the organizers of the meeting from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). - In modern conditions, governments and the private sector are introducing strategies and mechanisms to solve domestic problems that protect national economies from the consequences of the global crisis. Digital solutions such as electronic payments, trade and information and advisory services can increase the strength of the agri-food system and ensure the provision of vital technical services to farmers”.

Regarding this, the interconnection between sustainable agriculture, extension of the possibilities for small farmers and other issues, concerned in the light of order of business in the sphere of sustainable development till 2030.
